We have a resident's committee who encourage a wide range of social activities.  However, we respect the resident's independence and there is no obligation to participate in any of the activities.  Tweed View House is situated in a fairly central location in Berwick-upon-Tweed and is close to the main centre providing a selection of interesting shops for those more mobile.

Berwick-upon-Tweed is situated on the border between England and Scotland and has had a turbulent history.

Amazingly, it has changed hands 13 times from the twelfth to the fifteenth century before finally settling in England's hands in 1482 and Scottish Tourist Board has recently expressed an interest to buy it back!.

Berwick was once a vital strategic outpost and there is still plenty of evidence of this, with the old town surrounded by impressive Elizabethan Walls.  In 1558, Queen Elizabeth I ordered the building of these walls in order to make full use of artillery and to provide fire-cover for all parts of the wall.
The Walls are now one of Berwick's most popular tourist attractions and they provide the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing stroll around the fortifications.  The Berwick Barracks has an interesting museum which provides an insight into much of the town's history.

Berwick Castle dates from around 1150 and overlooks the River Tweed on a site close to Tweed View House and the railway station, but has been reduced to ruins since the sixteenth century.  The railway provides Berwick with a vital link with Edinburgh and North East England.

The River Tweed at Berwick is a beautiful and much photographed stretch of water which remains a haven for wildlife, including Berwick's famous swans and Tweed View House offers the best views.

Across the river are the largely residential areas of Tweedmouth and Spittal which also offer some fantastic views of the Tweed estuary and the town of Berwick from the south.

The town centre has a wide range of specialist shops mixed with multi-national firms, while it still boasts a traditional market every Wednesday and Saturday on Marygate, the town's main shopping street.

Visitors to the town are always well catered for and there is plenty for them to enjoy, with regular events at The Maltings Arts Centre and the Playhouse cinema, while there are annual events such as the Riding of the Bounds and the Border Marches, the RNLI fete day, Tweedmouth Feast and the Berwick Tattoo.
